Setraco May Clash With Community
Following the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum given to Setraco Nigeria Limited, the company constructing the road linking Omerelu to Port Harcourt, over electric poles allegedly removed by the company, by the Omerelu community in Ikwerre local government area of Rivers State, the community may soon clash with the company.
The 14-day ultimatum issued Setraco company by the traditional ruler of the community, HRH Eze E. O. A. Omah (JP) elapsed last Monday.
The traditional ruler, Eze Omah said that since the company started working in the area, the electric poles were either removed without being replaced with firm ones or reconnected back to the source, putting the community in the darkness for over four months now, adding that the situation has paralysed social and business activities in the area.
Eze Omah further alleged that the old poles removed have been sold by the contractors only to be replaced with ones that could not stand a day’s wind without being found on the ground.
It was gathered that the youths of the community may clash with the soldiers attached to company’s expatriate workers as they (soldiers) have allegedly developed a penchant for forcefully confronting youths and any other persons who complain about the company’s alleged removal of the electric poles.
They therefore, called on Governor Amaechi to advise the company on the aggrieved issue or prepare to contend with the anger of the community, as they pleaded with the state Governor to revisit the interlink roads and other projects approved for the community, especially the issue of road tarring.
When contacted the company’s office at Omerelu, the security officers at the gate denied access to our reporter.
