The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that over 588, 000 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) are yet to be collected in Rivers State.
Head, Voter Education of INEC in Rivers State, Mr. Edwin Enabor who disclosed this in Port Harcourt last week also said that the commission has given out more than two million PVCs to voters in the state.
Enabor further said that there were over three million registered voters currently in Rivers, even as he said INEC is impressed with the figure and urged those who are yet to collect their PVCs to do so.
He said, “Right now Rivers State has tentatively three million, two hundred and three thousand, one hundred and sixty nine registered voters.
“Of this number we have given out two million five hundred and thirty thousand, five hundred and seventy one PVCs. These are the voters who have PVCs.
“And we have five hundred and eighty eight thousand and sixty seven PVC’s yet to be collected. Still being collected,” Enabor disclosed.
The Head, Voter Education of INEC in the state disclosed however called on those experiencing difficulties in collecting their PVCs to be patient with the commission, saying those concerned will received theirs before the general elections.
“Those for replacement, transfers and all that, yes their cards are coming in batches and as they are coming we are giving them out to the owners. So anybody who falls into this category and incidentally I also fall into that category.
“So we are still expecting them. The emphasis was on the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) and we are now doing all this other one and I am sure that before the elections all of them would have come,” Enabor assured.
