The President of Government Girls Secondary School, Harbour Road Old Girls Association of Port Harcourt, now Methodist Girls High School , Dr Hope Bellgam, says sports bring unity and love.
She stated that apart from fostering love and unity, it keeps every human being fit, both mentally and physically.
Dr Bellgam said this yesterday in an exclusive interview with Tidesport, shortly after her old girls defeated Old Girls of Holy Rosary Girls Secondary, Port Harcourt 4-0, at Sharks Football Stadium in Port Harcourt, in a novelty match to mark the school’s diamond jubilee.
According to her, the match is not all about winning, but to have fun, get excited and meet old friends.
“We use football match as part of our programmes because it bring love, unity and keep the body fit. I commend my girls for winning the game”, ‘ Bellgam said.
Also speaking, an old girl of Holy Rosary Girls Secondary School, Mrs Igonibi Brisibe said winning or losing the match is not important, because they came to celebrate with their sister school.
“We came to celebrate with them not to win them.
When it comes to real competition we will defeat them”,She said.
Brisibe commended GGSS Harbour Road Old Girls in their 60th years celebration adding that 60th years is not a day journey. Earlier a player of GGSS Harbour Road Old Girls Mrs Julia Ekwerike who was voted the best player of the game expressed joy over the award.
