The Rivers State College of Health Sciences has admitted a total of 929 students for the 2018/2019 academic session.
Making the revelation recently at the flag-off of a 2-day orientation programme for the new intakes, the Provost of the College, Dr Franklin E. Nlerum urged the students to be focused on why they were admitted.
“Be patient and hardworking to ensure that you achieve your goals of coming to this school” he told the new admitted students.
He used the opportunity to assure the students that the management of the institution will ensure that we give you (students) our best”.
Nlerum, however, reminded the students that the commitment of the school authorities will be meaningless if the students do not exhibit the same commitment.
This, he said, they can show by taking responsibility to attend classes, doing assignments and practicals.
Towards this end, he charged the students to use the school’s handbook as their roadmap and urged them to always consult the leadership of the students’ union for help.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Director of Student’s Affairs, Dr Dickson Dum, called on the students to shun such social vices as cultism.
Dr Dum who is also the Dean of Students’ Affairs, urged the students to take advantage of the institution’s vocational centre to acquire extra skills capable of turning them into employers of labour, as against seekers of employment, on completion of their studies.
On his part, while welcoming the new students, the Acting Registrar of the College, Mr Previous Kuapie, reminded them that until they complete their registration, they are not bonafide students of the college.
Also in attendance at the occasion ere Directors of Various Schools of the College/Consultancy Unit, librarian, Bursar and Student Union Government.
