Determined to curb quackery in the real estate industry, the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON), has said that it would begin to issue numbers to members of the Nigeria Institute of Architects (NIA).
Vice Chairman, NIA, Rivers State, Mr Ebiwene Bozimo, gave the hint in a chart with The Tide, in Port Harcourt, yesterday.
Bozimo noted that according to the plan as hinted by ARCON, the council would ensure enforcement and compliance with the law that all registered architects be issued with number which would empower architects alone to handle all architectural projects.
He explained that the move has become necessary after it was found that developers and other stakeholders in the built environment were said to hire unregistered persons whom they pass on as professionals or expatriates, who in reality know next-to-nothing in building.
According to him,we have noticed that some developers in a bid to cut prices and fraudulently cut comrners by using quacks and unregistered persons to do jobs professionally should be doing’’.
He expressed the hope that by the time every machinery is put in place’ quackery would be eliminated and building collapse would be a thing of the past.
Bozimo enjoined architects to comply, by registering and being fanatically up-to-date.
