The management of Songhai Rivers Development Initiative (Songhai Farms) has assured that the facility would resume full production as soon as the privatisation currently being driven by the Rivers State Government is completed.
The Centre Manager, Songhai Farms, Mr. Tammy Jaja, who disclosed this during an exclusive interview with The Tide at the project site in Bunu Tai, Rivers State, weekend, however, admitted that the delay in the concessioning was taking a toll on the facility.
Jaja explained that the present administration led by Governor Nyesom Wike, in its wisdom, felt the facility should be privatized when it came on board, noting that they were waiting for the investor to take it over.
He, therefore, appealed to the Rivers State Government to fast-track the concessioning process for operations to fully resume, so as to boost food production in the state, and encourage youth entrepreneurship.
The manager said, “Production here (the farm) is low now because with the coming of the new administration, the state government considered it necessary to privatise this initiative. I can vividly say that the privatization and commercialization process is ongoing.
“We believe that the government will come up with something good, but the delay has affected the operations of the farm. That is why we are appealing to the state government to quicken the process and officially hand over this facility.
