Following the poor sanitary condition of Number Five Field located at Old Port Harcourt Township, Commissioner for Sports in Rivers State, Hon. Boma Iyaye has dissolved the management committee in charge of the field.
He stated that the edifice was built by the State Government to ensure that tennis came closer to the people and erase the misconception that tennis is an elitist game.
Hon Iyaye said this at a tennis tournament organised by the state tennis association, on Saturday, at Number Five field, in Port Harcourt.
“We appointed management committee to maintain the facilities and to keep the environment clean and healthy , but they failed on their duties, so we have decided that they should go and other competent people will be appointed to care of the facilities for government,” Hon Iyaye said.
The number one sports man in the state further directed the committee members to handover every property and document under their custody to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Sports on or before the end of today.
“The committee should hand over every property and document belonging to the state in its possession to the permanent secretary, ministry of sports.
“Failure to adhere to the directives we will arrest you(committee members) with police,” he stated.
