Cleric Urges Christians To Help Others
The newly elected executive of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, yesterday, at the Living Faith Church (aka Winners Chapel), Kaduna Street, D/Line, Port Harcourt, thanked God for a successful 6th triennial delegates conference and election of new officers to pilot the affairs of the union for the next three years.
Speaking at the thanksgiving service, the Presiding Pastor of the church, Pastor Isaac Folaji, while delivering the sermon, advised Christians to help one another in line Christ’s admonition to mankind.
He took the sermon from the books of Luke 22: 27, Psalm 8: 6 and Deuteronomy 28, saying that children of God were expected to assist those in need, and be on top at anywhere they find themselves.
“As Christians, we are redeemed to help others. We are also expected to render services to God continually. God created human beings to have dominion over other creatures on earth”, Folaji said.
Also speaking shortly after the Thanksgiving, the Chairman of NUJ, Rivers State Council, Stanley Job Stanley, said it was important to thank God because without Him, the election would not have been possible.
“You know, last election, there were challenges, and a lot of turbulence, but we thank God all came to pass”, he said.
The chairman used the forum to charge chairmen and members of various steering committees to work out modalities on how best their committees would be effective and functional.
“Committees should bring proposals and ideas to make the union function effectively and efficiently. Every member of the union should see him or herself as part of the executive, which is the only way we can achieve success. Besides, there should be no dull moment”, he stated.
On the issue of those suspended, he said, “the union is willing to forgive them, if they show remorse and beg for forgiveness, because we are all members of one family”.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
