Boat Operators Task Firms, NGOs On Life Vests

Following the incessant boat mishaps in Rivers State, Chairman, Bakana Boat Drivers Association, Dienye Davis has called on companies and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOS) to assist the drivers with life vests and other marine equipment to save lives.
Describing water transport as risky, Davis frowned at the two separate accidents that claimed three lives in the state and called on government to assist the drivers with tools to work with.
The Bakana chairman appealed for the periodic cleaning of debris in the waterways by the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) and Ministry of Transport to reduce water accident.
Davis also called on the residents of Port Harcourt metropolis and companies to desist from dumping waste in the water.
He called on marine police to arrest and prosecute anybody or companies that dump waste into the rivers across the state.
The chairman appealed to drivers to desist from recklessness and drive with caution to minimise accident.
