RSU Students Cry Out Over Cultism, Insecurity

Cultism and other anti-social activities that have seemingly engulfed the Rivers State University (RSU), Nkpolu Orowurukwo in recent times have become a source of concern and worry to the students and friends of the institution.
The students are calling on the state government and the management of the institution led by Prof Blessing Didia to urgently address the ugly incident which according to them have become a recurring decimal in the institution.
Speaking to The Tide source, the students who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the incident had become a major worry and concern to the students and the university community.
They said hoodlums and cultists attacked students on a daily basis in the school without any arrest made.
“Students lost their valuables everyday, ranging from computers, phones and money and this has subjected some students to palpable fear. We cannot read again in the night because of the activities of these hoodlums.
“We are calling on the quick intervention of the university administration to address these challenges as it has become a huge embarrassment to the institution”.
Also speaking, Mr Paddy Emeka who claimed to be a member of the university community urged the Vice Chancellor to find solution to the problems, adding that it thus suggests that the school authorities do not have a solution to the problems at hand.
“Sometimes, these hoodlums operate in the day time and go unhurt without anybody confronting them. The other day, a female student was dispossessed of her valuables. These things occur virtually everyday”, he added.
The Acting Head of the Press Unit of the institution, Mr Enyindah Syndney could not be reached for comments as he was said to be away on official assignment.
