Court Jails Two For Possession Of Stolen Property


A Kado Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja,yesterday sentenced two vagrants, Japhet Adams and Musobawo Ahmed to four months imprisonment for being in possession of stolen property.
Adams, 18, and Ahmed, 20, of no fixed addresses, were convicted on a two-count charge of joint act and being in possession of stolen property.
The judge, Alhaji Ahmed Ado, convicted Adams and Ahmed as both had admitted committing the offences and begged for leniency.
Ado, however, gave the convicts an option of N5,000 fine each and warned them to desist from committing crime.
The Police Prosecutor, Judith Obatomi, had told the court that the convicts were arrested on July 21 by a police patrol team, led by Insp Ayuba Bala, attached to Utako Police Station.
Obatomi said that they were arrested while the team was on patrol along Berger and Arab junction about 5:30 a.m.
She said that the convicts were caught with Top cylinder and Radiator of a Marcopolo, a luxury bus, suspected to have been stolen.
The prosecutor said that during police interrogation, the convicts failed to give satisfactory account of the property.
The offences are punishable under Sections 79 and 319 of the Penal Code.
