Stakeholder Laments Conversion Of Land To Refuse Dump

A Niger Delta activist, Dr Sokari Soberekon has lamented the incessant encroachment on his land located at Plot 49 Orije Layout behind the Mile One flyover in Port Harcourt by some traders.
The 77-year-old activist who said this in an exclusive interview with The Tide in Port Harcourt said that his land has been turned into a refuse dump by traders, stressing that he has been spending thousands of naira to clean-up the place.
The activist further said that the entrance to the land has been barricaded, stressing that even the drainages he laid has been covered up.
Soberekon, who alleged active connivance between the police and the traders, stressed the need for the Commissioner of Police to intervene by ordering the traders out of the area.
According to him, the drainage should be reopened to check flooding in the area while those aiding the traders to continue their occupation on his land should desist from it.
The activist lamented that the presence of illegal traders on his land is denying him from making good use of the place.
He also called on those claiming that the land has been revoked to show proof of evidence.
