Gov Lauds NAMA On Air Safety

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has been applauded for effectively enhancing the safety of air travel within the nation’s airspace.
The Governor of Imo State, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, who made the remark at the Airspace Managers Forum in Owerri, the Imo State Capital on Tuesday, expressed delight that NAMA has attracted a lot of goodwill to the country through its commitment to excellent service.
“Because of the strategic role played by the agency, I can simply define Aviation as NAMA and NAMA as aviation”, the Imo helmsman said.
Okorocha, who was once the board chairman of the agency, however lamented that NAMA do all the work, yet it is the least recognised in the system, due to the invisible but critical nature of its service.
He also said that the state government recently awarded contracts for the construction of some airport structures, including a perimeter fence round the Imo Airport facility to forestall security breaches along the runway.
According to him, that was part of efforts of the Imo State government, in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Transportation, to fast-track the smooth operationalisation of the Imo International Cargo Airport in Owerri.
The Airspace Managers forum was for the top echelon of the agency, including airspace managers across the nation’s airports, to brainstorm on critical issues of civil aviation, and also design a road map for enhancing safety of air navigation in the country.
