Road Construction: Private Sector Operators Laud Wike …Call For Repair Of Aba-PH Expressway

The Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has received a pat on the back from some private sector operators in the state for embarking on numerous road construction projects.
General Manager of Bua Ports and Terminal, Mr Ibrahim Mohammed, told the Committee on Commerce and Industry of the Rivers State House of Assembly when they went there on oversight, in Port Harcourt, that the governor has done well, especially in repairing the once impassable Industry Road, which he said, affected business.
“We appreciate the roads construction carried out by the state government within the state but we also want them to extend same to the PH-Aba Express Road and other roads that link states because these are roads that investors come in from.
He said the company has not just come to peep but has come to sit down and contribute to the development of the state.
He said, as part of its corporate social responsibility, the company has supplied over 500 trips of sand for the repair of Bundu Ama Road, purchased vehicle for the police to promote security and sponsored various educational, social and cultural programmes of its host community.
According to him, the company began operation in Rivers State in 2006, and has employed over 200 workers from the state and other surrounding states.
He pleaded with the House to amend the law passed by the previous administration which restricted the movement of trucks within the hours of 6pm to 6am
He urged the state government to harmonise its tax system as most of the companies are forced to pay same tax from different groups.
Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Hon Enemi George, who also represents Asari-Toru Constituency 2 in the state assembly, said that they were in the company to interact and interface with the management “because government cannot be efficient without the contribution of the private sector”, assuring them of government’s support to provide an enabling environment for their operations.
He assured that the multiplicity of taxes would be tackled as government strives to ensure that companies do business in the state comfortably.
He noted that for the past 16 years, no government has taken security seriously like the present administration.
Other companies visited include the Port Terminal Operators Limited and Dangote Salt.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
