Bizman Tasks NDDC On Mechanised Farming

A Port Harcourt-based businessman, Chief Benson Amanna, has urged the management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to take the lead in agricultural development in the Niger Delta region
Amanna who is the managing Director of Amazi farm Limited said as Nigeria emphasizes the strategic place of agriculture, there was need for the commission to own large farms across the region and engage youths.
Amazi who noted that farming business is a lucrative one, remark that because Nigeria has not migrated to mechanized agriculture, youths felt discouraged.
‘NDDC has all it takes to bring mechnaised farming to the region to engage the lrge number of unemployed youth and increase food production, he said.
He called on the new management to fund the establishment of large farms in each local government areas of the region.
The businessman said, if well managed, the NDDC farms would flood the market with variety of farm produce and also have sufficient for export.
He explained that parts of the region with vast land could go into crop farming or plantation, while the riverine side could go into fish farming.
Amanne advised the new managing director to consider only projects that directly touch lives instead of political and white elephant projects as was done by past leadership of NDDC.
