Princess Diana’s Dress Sells For N33.6m


Days after someone
bought King Sunny Ade’s guitar for over N55 million someone spent N33.6 million 56,250 on a dress which belonged to the late Princess of Wales, Princess Diana. Others dresses belonging to the people’s Princess also sold for N2 million and N3.5 million respectively.
Even though it has been over 19 years since she passed on, Princess Diana’s fashion choice are still making ripples in the world. According to a recent report, a purple velvet Bruce oil field gown belonging to the people’s Princess, recently sold for N56,250 (N22.4 million official rate, N33.6 million black market rate) at a recent auction in London.
It was gathered that Princess Diana wore the gown on an official visit to Portugal with Prince Charles in 1987. The purple embossed bruce oldfield dress which was a wide neckline exposing the shoulders and a slit to reveal a glimpse of leg was first worn by the Princess of Wales during an official visit to Portugal with Prince Charles in 1987. She chose the gown for a dinner thrown by then Portuguese President Mario Soares at Ajuda palace in Lisbon. She also wore the dress with a dazzling diamond tiara that was a gift from her majesty the Queen.
Other dresses of Princess Diana which were sold at the auction include a turquoise Catherine Walker dress which sold for $5,250 (N2 million) and a tartan dress chosen by Diana for an outing to the Braemar highland games in 1982, which sold for $8,875 (N35 million).
