Milling Firm Rewards Rice Farmers

Group Nigeria, Popular Farms and Mills Limited, has recognised rice farmers for their contributions towards helping to make Nigeria self-sufficient in rice production.
The recognition, according to The Tide source took place at an award ceremony held as part of a one-day backward integration initiative for rice value chain organized by the company. The gesture was also extended to some of its distinguished customers.
Programme manager of the farm mill, Suleiman Umar, explained the importance of the recognition as giving the necessary impetus to the farmers, stakeholders as well as its customers.
“This meeting we are having today is held to give benefit to those who deserve it. Those who did well in the course of production, especially the suppliers, the farmer cooperative representatives, individual farmers and a lot of people contributing to the sector”, he said.
The event had in attendance out growers and major stakeholders in the rice value chain, including public partnership officer FADAMA coordinator, Abubakar Sa’id Ibrahim, and the zonal Agribusiness specialist for Agricultural Transformation Agenda Support Programme Phase I, Kona/Jigawa Zone, Sanusi Mohammad, amongst others.
The event took place at the company’s rice mill complex in the Challawa industrial Estate, Kano.
