The commissioner said that the state government was prepared to work with women professionals if they could come up with policies that bring about development to the state, saying, “Before now, we could hardly find a woman as an engineer, but the reverse is the case today, so it is pertinent for us to support in the training of more women in different fields”.
He commended the women engineers on their efforts at developing the girl-child and the eradication of inferiority complex in professionalism, causing women to compete favourably with their male counterparts.
According to him, “You have indeed taken the bold step to be part of the campaign to build the future of our children in different academic fields which in turn enables them build more confidence in completing with their male counterparts anywhere in the world”.
He used the opportunity to call on APWEN to key into Governor Wike’s developmental vision to ensure a better future for the younger generation and join the peace train to preach peace.
In her statement, chairman of APWEN, Rivers State, Anthonia Ohagwa observed that the association is a service oriented organization geared towards human capacity building of the girl-child.
She said, “our aim is to elicit the interest of the girl-child in science and technology, also mention them to understand the fact that no factor can limit them in competing with their opposite sex in science and technology?
Ohagwo appealed to the Rivers State Government to support the association in providing logistics and sponsorship for them to attend conferences and other capacity building tools like workshops and seminars within and outside the country.
