The Nigerian Electricity
Regulatory Commission (NERC) has expressed worry over the increasing attack on workers of electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) in the country.
NERC expressed its concern in a statement by its Head of Public Affairs Department, Dr Usman Arabi,  in Abuja, recently.
It stated that the recent attack was on staff of the Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHEDC) while on official duty.
It stated that similar incidence had been reported by the Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company and other DISCOs, adding that such ugly development was capable of sending wrong signals to investors.
The statement called on perpetrators of such acts and those contemplating to embark on fresh attack to desist from such act.
It also called on Rivers Police Command to investigate the allegation of attacks on PHEDC staff at the Police Quarters in Igwuruta and take necessary steps to sanction the perpetrators to forestall a reocurrence.
It further urged the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies to ensure the safety of electricity workers while carrying out their legitimate duties.
The statement urged electricity customers to always make use of the commission’s appropriate channels of lodging complaints and seeking redress.
