Ogonis Win RSUST Eze Wali Cup

ers State University of Science and Technology, RSUST chapter of the National Union of Rivers State Students, NURSS football competition in honour of Eze Oha Okporo and Nye-Weli Mgbuesilaru, Eze Ejike Wali was concluded on Saturday at one of the playgrounds of the University.
The competition which threw up Ogonis and Ikwerres as finalists was organised among all the Rivers State ethnic nationalities within the University Community.
In the final match watched by the Second Class traditional ruler, who sponsored the competition, other dignitaries and football fans, Ogoni team pipped their Ikwerre counterparts 1-0 to emerge winners and claim the top prize. It was a keenly contested final that saw both teams exhibit quality football skills and competitive spirit that impressed the spectators.
The first half ended on a barren note with both sides cancelling themselves out. But a well taken rebound off a drop ball by the Ikwerre team’s goalkeeper saw the Ogoni team snatch victory.
Speaking at the end of the match, sponsor of the competition, Eze Wali commended the organizers and participants for a good tournament. He promised that the competition would be annual event and better packaged subsequently.
The Eze urged the students to concentrate on their studies and eschew any act that would not bring good dividend to the community, their families and academic pursuit.
Tidesports gathered that the competition was designed to integrate the different ethnic groups in the school, engender spirit of friendship and sportsmanship among the students.
The Champions went home with the sum of N200,000 as prize money, runners-up the sum of N100,000 while some outstanding players earned individual prizes.
