Armed men suspected to
be Fulani herdsmen have abducted an auditor with the Enugu State Government, along the Nsukka-Adani express road.
It was gathered that the abductors have demanded N5 million ransom from the family for his release.
Our correspondent learnt that the victim, Ogbobe Stephen, who hails from Ukpabi Nimbo in Uzo-Uwani council area of Enugu State, had gone home in company of six others for a town-hall meeting in the community.
The auditor was abducted on his way back to Nsukka after the meeting last weekend.
His abductor, reportedly flagged down the car conveying the six men, ordered them to lie face down, tied some of the captives’ hands and legs, before dragging the auditor into the bush.
Wife of the victim, Mrs. Ogbobe, who disclosed this to newsmen, yesterday, said she was informed of the kidnap of her husband by one of the people that travelled to the village with him.
She, however, confirmed the adductors were demanding N5 million as ransom for his release.
The woman said that the family was yet to report the incident to the police for fear that such might infuriate the abductors and jeopardize the condition of the victim.
The Tide also gathered that a combined team of policemen, had combed the forest without any fruitful result.
Reacting to the development, Chairman, Uzo-Uwani, Transition Committee, Mr. Cornell Onwubuya, who condemned the act, hinted that the council pays about 30 vigilantes to assist police beef up security along the road but regretted that the intervention had done little to check criminal activities in the area.
