Edo Raises Health Workers Wage

The Edo State gov
ernment has approved a new pay increment for workers in the state’s health sector.
According to a statement issued in Benin, Edo State Capital, on Wednesday, the State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, announced the new wage increment by five percent for the health workers when he received in audience members of the Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) at the Government House, Benin City.
The governor said that the wage increment is for all health workers  including laboratory technicians, nurses and midwives in the Edo State public service.
The statement explained that the Edo State governor said that prices of goods have been escalating with high cost of living even at a time of dwindling revenue accruing to the country, stressing that things are even worse for workers because every thing is going up.
He further said that Nigeria’s economy is in crisis burdened not only by low price of crude oil but many economic challenges facing the country.
Oshiomhole added that the wage increment for the health workers was to cushion the hardship being experienced in the face of dwindling economic crisis and urged the workers to reciprocate government gesture.
