Re-award Shore Protection Project, CDC Tells NDDC
The Kula Community
Development Committee in Akuku-toru Local Government Area of Rivers on Sunday urged the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to re-award shore protection project in the community.
The Chairman of the Committee, Mr Christopher Fibresima, made the call in an interview with newsmen in Port Harcourt.
Febresima said that since the NDDC awarded the contract to Baywick Engineering Limited, the company had not mobilised to site.
He also said that the commission awarded an 11-kilometre internal road contract in the area to OKS and Sons Limited in 2011, but the contractor had yet to mobilise to site.
He pleaded with Mr Dan Abia, the Managing Director of NDDC to re-award the projects to other contractors that had the capacity to deliver.
“NDDC awarded two different projects in the community to local contractors that lack capacity to execute the job.
“It is unfortunate that these companies lacked the requisite capacity to execute the project,” he said.
The chairman said OKS had assured the community in September 2014 that it would mobilise to site during the next dry season but failed to do so.
He said Baywick had reported to site only to say that it could not find sand within the area to sand-fill the shore.
Fibresima said the actions of the companies showed that they lacked the capacity to do the jobs and wondered why they were awarded the contract.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
