NLC Group Queries BPE’s Performance

The Nigeria Labour Con
gress (NLC) faction led by Comrade Joe Ajaero has queried the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) performance in the privatisation exercise that had led to the moribund state of most companies privatised by the agency.
Ajaero stated this in Lagos while addressing newsmen at the end of the Central Working Committee Meeting of the Factional Congress held in Lagos on Wednesdsay.
He said the congress advised the coming government of General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) to review the activities of the Bureau with a view to ensuring that the interest of workers are properly taken care of before embarking on further privatisation of government owned companies.
He said the NLC CWC resolved to develop a blue print on how to achieve steady electricity supply, adding that the incoming administration should also develop a road map on how many megawatts of electricity should be generated yearly over a period of time.
The factional CWC under Ajaero further reaffirmed its commitment to the unity of the labour movement of Nigeria based on the principles of trade union independence, fairness, strong internal democracy equity, gender balance and justice.
He further explained that his NLC led faction is committed to genuine dialogue with an independent reconciliation committee to be constituted by labour veterans and civil society leaders with a view to addressing the current challenges facing the labour movement in the country.
Ajaero urged the Buhari in-coming administration to focus expanding the frontier for job creation through value added activities in agriculture and manufacturing.
He also urged the administration to consider as a cardinal principle the issue of how to address the income inequality and widening gap between the poor and the rich through wage improvements and progressive tax administration in the country.
