The Edo State chapter of
Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the Edo/Delta branch of Manufacturers Association of Nigeria (MAN) have congratulated Nigeria’s President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, for winning the presidential election.
The Chairman of the Edo NUT, Mr Mike Uhunmawngho and the Chairman of the Edo/Delta branch of MAN, Mr Humphrey Masodje, congratulated Buhari in separate interviews with our correspondent in Benin on Wednesday.
Masodje said, “I join all Nigerians to congratulate the President-elect and also congratulate the out-going President for his magnanimity in extending his hand of fellowship to the new president.’’
On his expectations from the new government, he said “we expect that the economy should be revamped.
“At the moment, there is power issue, infrastructural deficiency, most industries are having difficulty sourcing for raw materials and most factories are laying off their workers.
“We want the new government to ensure that infrastructure development is given prompt attention and the economy is revamped.’’
In his reaction, the Edo NUT chairman said “majority of persons said the election was free and fair, we take it like that, may be that is what God wants us to feel and we wish the president-elect the best of luck.’’
He said Nigerians were expecting Buhari to improve education in the country.
“We are expecting good achievements from the president-elect as it regards the education sector.
“We want the new government to move the sector forward and provide the necessary instructional materials and facilities presently lacking in our schools.’’
The chairman also called for better remuneration for teachers.
