sociation of Nigeria (ACHAN), Port Harcourt International Airport (PHIA) branch, has been drawn into crisis following the alleged inability of the Current Caretaker Committee (CTC) to conduct election of new officers of the body.
In a petition signed by 22 members of the organisation and addressed to the commercial manager of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), they said the delay in the conduct of the election has affected the operations of the body.
The petitioners, who described themselves as concerned members called on FAAN commercial manager to intervene to avoid an ugly situation that will affect the image of the PHIA.
They alleged that the caretaker-committee members had exceeded the statutory one-month provided by the ACHAN constitution by staying in office for eight months and still unwilling to organise an election.
The Tide aviation correspondent learnt that the caretaker Committee Chairman, Mr. Jacob Wele, had suspended twenty-one (21) members of the body for various offences and the  outcome was the petition.
It was further gathered that those who are happy with the disciplinary approach of the chairman to bring sanity to their operations are comfortable with the chairman and even want him to run for the election.
When contacted, the chairman, Mr. Jacob Wele, accepted that he had exceeded the period granted by the constitution, noting that the decision was that of the entire body to ensure that peace was restored before elections could be conducted.
Addressing ACHAN members in front of his office, the commercial Manager, Mr. Ufot U, urged them to maintain peace and allow the management to handle the issues amicably.
Ufot, told the caretaker committee to organise the elections on or before March ending 2015 and solicited the cooperation of members to the leadership of the organisation.
