Edo Govt Woos Core Science Teachers With Incentives
The Edo State Government
last Friday in Auchi, Etsakor West Local Government Area of the state, said it had advertised for core science teachers in its secondary schools.
Government Adams Oshiomhole said this when he presented a 33-seater coaster bus to Islamic scholars in charge of the Annual Qu’ranic Competition at the palace of the Otaru of Auchi, Alhaji Aliru Momoh.
Oshiomhole said unless attention was paid to education, the potentials in youths in the state would not be realised.
“In view of this therefore, I am happy to announce that we have started advertisement for teachers who can teach core science subjects. “We will pay them 40 per cent more incentives”, he said.
He also said that government would remain focused and ensure that the Edo child remained in classrooms conducive enough for learning and assured that in spite of challenges in the state, government would continue to work for the benefit of all.
While lauding the organisers of the competition, he stressed that government would support the tenets of any religion provided it was in line with the mandate of government.
He noted that although he had reservations on government sponsorship of pilgrimage, he was not against the establishment of religious facilities to promote good moral training and discipline.
He said government would support the establishment of Aishetu Oshiomhole Islamic Centre in Auchi noting that nobody could appreciate the power of prayers better than leaders.
He thanked the Muslim community for their prayers for a peaceful and more united state adding that such prayers had remained invaluable to his administration.
Earlier, the Otaru of Auchi, Momoh, thanked the governor for his contribution to the yearly Quranic competition and the provision of the bus and noted that the bus would in no small way help in easing the transport problem of the Islamic scholars and their students.
He said that the Muslim community had concluded plans to establish the Aishetu Oshiomhole Islamic centre named after the governor’s mother and commended the governor on the recall of the 936 teachers earlier dropped by the Edo government for various reasons.
He praised government’s decision to stop the competency test for teachers.

Niger Delta Students Suspend Protest Against NDDC In PH

The Niger Delta Students Union Government, Rivers State Chapter (NIDSUG), has suspended its planned protest against the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) state office in Port Harcourt. The suspension followed an intervention by the state Commissioner of Police, CP Olugbenga Adepoju.
The students had planned to protest on Thursday, citing alleged neglect by the NDDC, particularly in welfare and capacity-building programmes for students from the state. However, after the police intervention, the students agreed to participate in a roundtable discussion with the commission to address their concerns.
NIDSUG leader, Comrade Loveday Njoku, expressed dissatisfaction with the commission’s alleged exclusion of students from benefiting from its programmes. He presented a seven-point demand, including the reintroduction of scholarships for undergraduate and postgraduate students. Njoku emphasised that education is crucial for community development and urged the commission to invest in the future leaders of the state.
The students warned that if their demands are not met, they will resume the protest and occupy the state commission office until their demands are addressed. Despite previous attempts to reach out to the commission’s management team, the students claimed their efforts were unsuccessful.
