New Packaging Equipment For Airport Cargo Delivery

service delivery, FMC Aviation Limited has introduced an equipment to wrap export packaging cargo for customers.
Speaking to newsmen at the cargo terminal of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja Lagos, the Managing Director, Mr Herbert Odika, said the equipment, a plastic package seal around cargo meant for export will also protect cargo from the negative effects of weather and physical damages.
He said the new equipment was provided for cargo and clearing agents as one of the measures to improve the safety of cargo meant for export.
Mr Odika also spoke about plans to engage agents and other players in the cargo sub-sector to consider the consolidation of cargo which would be put in pallet and wrapped for export using the plastic seal.
He said the provision of the new equipment would assist freight forwarders to standardize their operation as is done in other parts of the world.
According to him, such technology is already in places like Ethiopia, Chicago and South Africa, urging the Nigerian Civil Authority (NCA) to consider it as a prerequisite for the protection and packaging of cargo meant for export. This technology of wrapping cargo in a plastic seal in pallets is already the norm in other parts of the world. It is one of the steps to enhance the safety and security of cargo meant for export.
It will bring about consolidation of cargo, a practice that are already in place in other countries. It would also assist to eliminate the challenge of cargo pilferage at the airport.
“This is the way to go, it is one of the proactive steps put in place to secure cargo and prevent it from damage by harsh weathers as well as pilferage,” Odika declared.
