As the insurgents attack
continues to pose a great challenge to the nation’s security agencies and indeed the country at large, the authorities of the Rivers State Police Command have enveloped strategies with a view to ensuring that the operations of the group are contained within and around the state.
This was the essence of a one-day stakeholders security workshop organised by the police command aimed at educating and senstiting members of the public especially major stakeholders in the security related profession.
Speaking at the workshop held at the Police Officers Mess in Port Harcourt, Thursday, the State Commissioner of Police CP Tunde Ogunsakin said the essence of the workshop was to acquaint the stakeholders and the general public on the working of the insurgents group as well as understanding the importance of all inclusive security mechanism in the society.
The State Commissioner of Police who was represented by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of administration, DC, Shaba Alkali stated that the problem of insecurity and terrorism has become an global phenomenon adding that terrorism distabilises peaceful administration of every state.
According to him, the workshop which was the third, has created the needed awareness to the society, “as the citizens he said, now know how the group works adding that information gathering was very essential in the fight against terrorism in the country.
“Today, the bombings and insurgent attacks are no longer only in the northern zone of the country rather it is all over the entire states. So we must lend our support to the various security agencies in this direction by giving them the desired information. You must not come before you can give information to the police but through the various distress emergency numbers” he added.
The state police boss road the gathering that the police has set out its machineries across the entire state including schools adding that the state government and the police force are protecting every citizen residing in the state.
He assured that the police in the state has all it takes to clamp down the insurgents attack in the state and urged members of the public to report any suspicious persons with a hidden identity, obscure objects to the police, even as he assured police surveillance in the state.
There were lectures on the role of government, police and public in security, as well as tips on identifying bombs in the society.
