Two In Court For Malicious Damage Of Properties


Two men — Busayo
Adefamisin and Ganiyu Otunba — who allegedly broke through the ceiling of a hotel in their escape bid, have been  brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court.
Adefamisin, 30, lives at No. 12, Shobowale St., Akowonjo, while Otunba, 26, resides at No. 27, Igbehinadun St., Shasha, also in Lagos suburb.
The duo is facing charges of conspiracy, stealing and damage to property to which they have pleaded not guilty.
According to Insp. Edet Okoi, the prosecutor, the accused committed the offences at 3.00 a.m. on March 10 at Sweet Mother Hotel at No. 29, Igbehinadun St., Shasha, Lagos. He alleged that the accused “wilfully and unlawfully’’ damaged 15 asbestos, three doors and four chairs, valued at N80, 000.
He said:”The accused who were not lodgers sneaked into a vacant room in the hostel and broke the ceiling to hide when they saw some policemen in the premises.”
Okoi also said that Otunba had on February 15 at 8.00 a.m. stole a ceiling fan worth N60, 000 from the hotel. The offences, he noted, contravened Sections 285, 348 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Our correspondent  reports that the accused may be sentenced to three years imprisonment if found guilty. The Magistrate, Mrs Margaret Dan-Oni, granted the two accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each with two sureties each in like sum.
The case was adjourned to April 3 for mention.
