Man, 27, Remanded Over Robbery

Court has remanded a 27-year old man in prison custody for alleged armed robbery offences.
The acccused, Onyeye Amele, was arraigned before Chief Magistrate I.F. Iyiabo on two count charge of stealing, armed robbery and conspiracy.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Godson Isaiah told the court that the accused and others now at large on the 22nd day of November, 2013 at No. 4 Shalom Street, Off Ada-George Road, Port Harcourt in the Port Harcourt Magisterial District did conspire amongst themselves to commit felony to wit: Armed Robbery.
The prosecution further told the court that the accused and others now at large on the same date and place in the afore said magisterial District while armed with gun and other dangerous weapons did rob one Meshack Samson Abu his lap-tops valued N180,00.00, three Nokia phones valued N45,000.00, one Toyota Hilux valued N6,200,00.00, adding that the total of property stolen stand at six million, four hundred and twenty five thousand Naira.
He averred that the accused has committed an offence punishable under section 1 (1) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act Cap 211 Laws of the federation of Nigeria 2004.
The Presiding Chief Magistrate, I.F. Iyiabo in his ruling remanded the accused in Port Harcourt Prison custody and directed that the case file be remitted to the office of DPP for legal advice. The case was later adjourned to 3rd April, 2014 for mention.
