AGIS Generates N1.5b In November
Abuja Geographic Information System (AGIS) said it generated over N1.5 billion in November, 2013, the Executive Director of the system, Hajia Jemila Tangaza, has said.
Tangaza, who disclosed this to newsmen last Monday in Abuja, said the amount was Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through the system.
She noted that it was a good month for AGIS to generate such a huge amount for the FCT administration, adding that more would be generated after the completion of the on-going system upgrading.
“There are good months and there have been months that are average, I can say to you that last month was a very good month, because we did generate over N1.5 billion for the administration.
“Yes there is a progress but I tell you that after the system upgrade, when we block all the holes definitely we should be getting close to N2 billion a month.
“Once we finish our upgrade, we will have sharp new latest computer system, latest 2003 satellite image covering not just 8,000 kilometer of the FCT but 12,000 km, including the contiguous state to be able to see what exactly is going on under our knowledge.
“And I think until after when we will reach that from the beginning of January that we will experience improvement here in activities of AGIS.
She said that FCT residents would experience great improvement by January on the activities of AGIS, adding that result of searches conducted would henceforth be released within 48 hours.
On sharp practices in the system, the executive director said there was no doubt that there are sharp practices, but with the on-going system upgrade these activities have been reduced.
“I did find out some incidences that were not right in the system and we have been able to look into these problems with other directors in the administration to reduce it to the barest minimum.
“I noticed that the few three months ago.
“Some of the illegalities were found out by EFCC and the information we got from them with our own report have been sent to the minister for necessary action.
While recognising the success recorded in the system in 2013, she said that AGIS staff had contributed immensely to ensure that the system met with the demands of FCT residents.
