Moro Inaugurates Committee On Paramilitary Housing Scheme

Interior Minister, Abba Moro
in Abuja yesterday, inaugurated an eight-man ministerial committee to monitor the construction of paramilitary housing scheme nationwide.
Moro said the scheme had become imperative in view of the prevailing security challenges and the critical role played by the paramilitary services in the fight against terrorism and insurgency.
He said the project, constructed under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative, would deliver decent and affordable housing to the officers and men of the paramilitary services.
The minister said the scheme was also targeted at tackling the challenges of the growing urban slum and high level of unemployment in the country.
He said with the signing of an MoU between the ministry and the developers, Messrs Byuan Resources Ltd., the company acquired parcels of land in 24 states and FCT, for the project.
He said the houses made up of three and two bedroom detached and semi-detached bungalows, respectively, when completed would be sold at affordable rates to beneficiaries.
Moro expressed optimism that the scheme would also boost the morale and productivity of the beneficiaries in discharging their duties.
He charged members of the committee to ensure the speedy development of the project in line with the MoU entered into with the developers.
“You are to monitor and oversee the steady execution of the project as it evolves and ensure that the quality of work by the partners are in conformity with the specification agreed upon in the MoU,’’ he said.
Moro also tasked the committee members to look at possible challenges faced by the project with a view to proffering solutions as well as ensuring a quarterly meeting with representatives of the developers.
Responding, the Director in charge of Paramilitary Services in the ministry, and Chairman of the committee, Mr Kefftin Amuga,  thanked the minister for choosing them to serve on the committee.
Amuga pledged the commitment of the committee to discharge their duties with diligence and in the interest of the nation and its citizenry.
It would be recalled  that President Goodluck Jonathan, had on May 21, inaugurated the paramilitary housing scheme at Kyami District, Airport Road.
