The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), said it had arraigned 52 motorists before its mobile court in Enugu for various traffic offences.
Mr. Fumbiyi Olawoyin, the Enugu Sector Commander, told our correspondent that two of the offenders were set free while 50 were convicted and fined accordingly.
Olawoyin said that violation of seat belt ranked the highest of the offences followed by driving with invalid motor licence.
other offences were driving without driver’s licence, driving against traffic and driving without wipers and vehicle lights, among others.
the sector commander said the command had embarked on the sensitisation and enlightenment of motorists on safety and traffic rules.
He also noted that members of the public needed re-orientation and attitudinal change.
“We will intensify our patrol and traffic control on major roads in Enugu in readiness for the Easter celebrations.
“Our regular and special marshals will be 24-hour, week-long traffic patrol especially at roads where we usually record heavy traffic like the 9th Mile Corner and the Naira Triangle.
“We will replicate the feat we recorded during the Christmas celebrations,” he said. Olawoyin also said the exercise would be repeated on March 27 and April 3 respectively.
He warned motorists to obey traffic rules and ensure that their vehicles were road-worthy, adding that the commission would arraign any offender in its mobile court during the exercise.
