Two In Custody Over Robbery


A Port Harcourt Chief Magistrate Court has remanded two
accused persons in prison custody for alleged conspiracy and armed robbery

The accused, Oliver Adonu, 36 and John Okolo, 32 are facing
three court charge conspiracy, theft and armed robbery before Chief Magistrate
Emmanuel C. Woke.

The prosecuting police officer, Inspector Godwin Nwinam
alleged that the accused and others now at large on August 18, 2012 at
Rumukalagbo in Obio/Akpor local government area within the jurisdiction of Port
Harcourt Magisterial district did robbed one Marcus Sorle of his Golf 3 Car,
with Registration Number BS 67 KWL, Chasis No WUWZZIGZKW1704, engine No
ABE300451 valued at six hundred and fifty thousand naira (N650,000.00) while
armed with gun.

The police prosecutor further alleged that the accused on
the 25th day of August 2012 at the same place did have in possession, one Honda
accord car with registration number and chasis THMBA 418001022548, one Volksula
gen Vento with chasis No WVW2223A ZFE 222153, engine Number ABE 429761,one
Passat Wagon car without chasis and registration numbers with engine number ADZ
401683 adding that the accused could not give satisfactory account of vehicles
when asked.

The prosecutor averred that the accused committed an offence
punishable under section 2(1), 12 (a) (b) of the robbery and fire arms (special
provision) Acts Cap R11 laws of the Federation of Nigeria 1990 and Section 430
of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol.11 Laws of the Rivers State. The accused did
not take any plea on the charges brought against them.

The presiding Chief Magistrate, Emmanuel C. Woke remanded
the accused in prison custody and directed the prosecution to forward the case
file to the DPP for legal advise on the matter. The case was later adjourned to
2/11/2012 for mention.
