SWAN Assures On Female Accountants Dev


The chairperson of the society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN), Rivers State Chapter, Mrs Felicia Omubo-Dede has assured that promoting the continuing education, intellectual growth and professional knowledge of female accountants in the state would be the cardinal objectives of her administration.

Mrs Omubo-Dede made the statement shortly, after she was sworn in as the chairperson of SWAN Port-Harcourt Chapter at the Atruim Plaza, Port-Harcourt, Wednesday.

The SWAN chairperson disclosed that the association is borne to assist the institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigerian (ICAN) in the protection of its charter, status and interest of the female members of the institute as well as stimulate the interest of girls and women to join the accountancy profession. According to her, the mission of the association is to inform the public and the profession of the abilities and achievements of women in accounting as well as promote international contracts with other women accountants outside Nigeria.

She stated that her administration would provide vocational business programmes and commended the efforts of the wife of the state governor, Dame Judith Amaechi on her contributions to advance the course of  humanity in the society especially the women folk.

She maintained that they have all the needed experience to move the association forward to contribute its quota to the nation building and called for collective support from members of ICAN in the state.

The state SWAN leader described the inauguration as a dream fulfilled after many years of anticipation adding that ICAN women had long worked for the formation of the association in the state in other to join their counterparts across the state.

Also speaking, the Vice Chairperson of SWAN Port Harcourt Chapter, Mrs Ernestina Anierobi-Agina stated that the inauguration ceremony is of significant importance to all female Chartered Accountants who belong or would belong in future.

Mrs Ernestina opined that the inauguration would give them the opportunity to network with one another and utilize the synergy that coming together of people would bring.
