A clergyman in the state has been docked by a Port Harcourt
Chief Magistrates Court for assault and other criminal offences.
The accused, Pastor Arthur Jonason, 39, is standing trial a
three-count charge of assault occasioning harm, heating somebody unlawfully
among others before Chief Magistrate U.V. Erekosima.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Goodluck Adoe told the
court that the accused on the 28th January, 2012 at Celia’s Nursery and Primary
School Rumuodaolu off Rumuola Road Port Harcourt unlawfully gave fist blows on
the chest and body of one Alaba Iyela.
He further alleged that the accused on the same date and
time within the jurisdiction of the Port Harcourt magisterial district used
microphone iron stand and hit the head and right hand of one Alaba Iyela which
caused him harm.
The police prosecutor alleged that the accused committed an
offence punishable under section 517, 351 and 355 of the criminal code cap 37 vol. II laws of Rivers State 1999.
The presiding chief magistrate, U.V. Erekosima however,
adjourned the matter to September 3, 2012 for r bail consideration.
