Professional build ers across the country, have urged the Federal Government to promulgate a law that gives proper guidance to professionals in the building industry.
Although there is an existing building code in Nigeria, the professionals have posited that the borders of the industry would remain porous until the building code was promulgated.
In their Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Enugu recently, the professionals under the umbrella of Nigeria Institute of Builders (NIOB) said the unavailability of such a law continued to undermine the wealth of the building industry which automatically affects the nation.
The NIOB has also been urged to promote modern building technology, that would enhance mass production of houses in Nigeria.
The confab which had the theme; “Transformation Agenda and Building Production in Nigeria” attracted other allied professionals within the sector.
President of NIOB, Mr. Chuks Omeife, blamed the haphazard implementation of the National Building Code (NBC) since its approval, on lack of enabling law to bring violators to book.
He said that the gap had greatly contributed to incessant building collapse cases across the country.
