The Emohua Local Government Council, has embarked on demolition of illegal structure within the Daewoo axis along the East/West Road, after the Choba bridge.
The council while carrying out the operations, Monday stated that the exercise followed the negative security reports emanating from the area.
Chairman of the council, Chief Allen Nma said that the shanties and illegal structures built within the Daewoo Company have provided cover for criminals who hide and live in the area to carry out their nefarious activities.
He noted that negative reports on security and crime from the area had been coming to him continuously, and that the council had to carry out the demolition to flush out criminals.
It was also gathered that the action of the council was informed by the directive of the Rivers State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi who had directed the council to demolish all illegal structures in the area.
Several shanties and temporary structures, including those used as residential homes and businesses were yesterday demolished by the combined team of council environmental sanitation staff and other security personnel.
Some victims of the exercise, who claimed they were there to do genuine business, lamented that they have been negatively affected by the demolition as they have no other place to carry out their businesses.
