NCAA Assures Nigerian Travellers Of Fair Deal

The Director-General of Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Dr. Harold Demuren has assured travelers that they will not be surcharged in any form by international carriers operating in the country.

He decried a situation whereby Nigerian travelers first travel to Ghana to board flights to Europe because of regional fare imbalance, stressing that NCAA would address this problem.

“Nigeria will not be surcharged; we will pursue this to the end. Collusion of exploitation of Nigerians must stop, but exploration is encouraged. It is unfortunate that Nigerians now go to Ghana to fly to United Kingdom because of regional fare imbalance. They discovered that they can spend the same money for a business ticket in Nigeria for two business class tickets in Ghana.

“We won’t allow this because we have the market advantage on the continent and one of the highest in the world. This is a battle and we stand by it. Anti-competitive practices must stop”.

According to him, the economic regulation of the NCAA is in the volume II of its regulations, stressing that the part 12 of the regulation will cover aerodromes in the country, its restrictions and certificates among others.

He explained that part 14 of the volume II also talked about air navigational services and urged the airports under the purview of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to comply with the requirements.

“We need to support our airlines for them not to die and we need to increase our infrastructure at the airport for them to survive”, he said.
