Sambo Urges Nigerians Abroad To Support FG
Vice President Namadi Sambo has called on Nigerians in the U.S. to support the Federal Government to reconstruct the country.
Sambo made the appeal while addressing Nigerians in Diaspora at a Town Hall meeting at the Nigeria Embassy in Washington.
According to our correspondent the meeting witnessed a large turnout of Nigerians living in various states of the U.S.
Sambo said that redesigning and reconstructing the country was part of the campaign promises by President Goodluck Jonathan and himself.
According to him, it is the first time in the history of Nigeria that a scientist and an architect will rule the country, hence “Nigeria deserves nothing less than redesigning and reconstruction”.
Sambo said the administration would transform the country for the better, stressing that corruption which had been its bane of development, was being tackled.
He said government wanted to reduce corruption drastically by appointing an experienced Police officer as the Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the fight against corruption.
On the insecurity in the northern part of the country, the Vice President said the issue was not a religious problem but an act by some disgruntled individuals with “terrorism in their minds ’’.
“The President is taking every action to ensure security of all citizens across the country. We need to support the government to fight the perpetrators of the act.”
On the non development of lands allocated to Nigerians living in the U.S. in Abuja, the Vice President directed the Nigeria Ambassador, Prof. Ade Adefuye to collect necessary documents for the lands and forward them to his office for immediate action.
Responding to a question on the request by Nigerian in Diaspora to have voting right in subsequent elections in the country, Sambo said the National Assembly (NASS) had taken action on the matter.
He assured them that the “Nigerians in Diaspora will vote in the next elections in 2015’’ and expressed the hope that the NASS would conclude the issue soonest.
Commenting on youths unemployment, the Vice President said all the programmes of the Federal Government were designed to include job creation.
He urged youths in the Diaspora, particularly those who completed their education, to return home and develop themselves and the country.
