The Board of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has directed its Audit and Finance Committee to investigate all the issues raised during the House of Representatives public hearing on the capital market.
This was contained in a statement signed by Mr Edosa Aigbekaen, secretary to the Commission, on Monday in Abuja. The board, in the statement, appealed to the general public to exercise restraint in their comments to allow the various authorities to complete their investigations.
The statement assured Nigerians that the commission remained committed to protecting investors and that it would continue to ensure highest integrity in the operations of the capital market.
“The SEC remains committed to protecting the investor and maintaining the highest levels of market integrity.’’ It added that the board, at the end of its 64th meeting, deliberated on issues arising from the public hearing on the capital market.
The hearing, House Committee on Capital Market which was mandated to carry out the probe, was dissolved following allegations of corruption levelled against it by the SEC leadership.
An ad hoc committee was constituted to continue with the probe.
