The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Rivers State, says the commission has been observing the congresses of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state as stipulated in the Electoral Act.
The Rivers State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hon Aniedi Ikoiwak who stated this through the commission’s Public Relation’s Manager, Mrs Anthonia Nwaobi on Tuesday confirmed that INEC officers at the local government areas had been observing the congresses.
Ikoiwak noted that the duties of the commission was to observe as stated in the Electoral Act, adding that after the congresses, the commission would receive the full lists of the executives.
Meanwhile, The Tide gathered that the local government congresses in Rivers were held under closed doors as members were harmonised in filling of the positions.
Our correspondents who visited Port Harcourt, Obio Akpor and Eleme local government areas, reported that members of the party arrived for the congresses but those who were to conduct the congresses did not turn up.
When contacted the State Public Relation Officer of the party, Mr Celestine Miebi said elections and congresses were held in the various local government areas of the state.
Mr Miebi said the party would conduct the state congress this Saturday with a view to maintaining its leadership strive in the state.
