The Chairman of the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), Dr Boniface Ene, has presented certificates of return to chairmen-elect and councilors-elect in the state.
Presenting the certificates to the 17 chairmen-elect and 260 councillors-elect, on Monday, Ene charged them to familiarise themselves with their functions.
“Local government chairmen and councillors form the grassroots government, go and perform.
“We did what we ought to do by holding the election peacefully,” Ene said.
The chairman thanked the security agencies in the state for their massive presence and support during the local government polls.
He also commended the media for providing effective coverage during the election.
Ene said the commission was impressed with the number of non-governmental organisations(NGOs) that observed the elections.
Among those presented with the certificate was the former Managing Director of the Enugu State Broadcasting Service (ESBS), Mr Emeka Ozoagu, who was elected chairman of Ezeagu LGA.
In his reaction, the chairman-elect of Udi LGA, Mr Chinedu Iloeje, said he had 37 communities and 20 wards in the council area to contend with.
He said his target was to ensure that every community in the council got a borehole within the first one year of his tenure.
Also reacting, the chairman-elect of Nkanu East LGA, Mr Sam Iyiogwe, said he would use his mandate to unite the people of the local government.
He also said that he would provide access roads to various communities in the council area.
