Investors at the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) Wednesday traded 287.9 million shares, worth N2 billion, in 6,261 deals, compared to 256.9 million shares, valued at N2.57 billion that exchanged hands in 5.651 deals.
Only the volume of traded equities appreciated while other market indicators; value, All –share Index and market capitalisation dipped to close the day on a negative note.
The volume of traded shares went up by 30.99 million shares or 10.8 per cent from 25.92 million shares traded Tuesday to close higher at 287.91 million shares.
However, equity value declined by 22.2 per cent or N570.51 million to close lower at N2 billion from N2.57 billion.
All-share Index also depreciated by 112.67 points from 25,085.59 points, to close lower at 25,072.92 points.
Market capitalisation shedded N3.63 billions from N8.014 trillion traded Tuesday, to close lower at N8.011 trillion.
Nestle gained N3.78 per share to top the gainers chart. Glaxosmith and Eti followed after making N.79 and N.62 gains per share, respectively.
On the other hand, WAPCO lost N2.11 to front the losers chart.
Sectoral performance still had the Banking sub-sector leading with 160.05 million shares worth N1.27 billion which exchanged hands in 3,396 deals.
Insurance sub sub-sector followed with 76.34 million shares, worth N61.94 million, in 371 deals.
