Abia Central In Disarray Over APGA Senatorial Candidacy

The issue of who is the authentic candidate of APGA Abia Central Senatorial district has stirred lots of dust.

While, Chioma Ogbuehi, a lawyer, was given the party’s flag by the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Umeh at Aba  two weeks ago and re-endorsed on Wednesday in Umuahia by the party’s governorship candidate at the party’s rally, her name was conspicuously absent in the INEC list in Umuahia headquarters of the commission.

The name of another lawyer, Kingsley Uzoma Anamah, was rather displayed in the Commission’s office as the candidate of APGA in Abia Central for the botched Saturday election, an action which has thrown the party faithful in the zone, who were said to be rooting for Ogbuehi, into confusion

However, INEC’s  Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Edwin Enabor,  confirmed that the name they have is that of Anamah, which, he said, was sent from the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja, whereas a document from the National Headquarters of APGA gave a contrary position. APGA says that Ogbuehi is its recognised candidate for the election in the  zone and urged their supporters to vote for her.

A letter dated March 16, 2011 and signed by both the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, and the National Secretary, Alhaji Sani Abdullah Shinkafi and sent to Prof. Attahiru Jega, INEC Chairman, confirmed Chioma Ogbuehi as the candidate for the Abia Central zone.

“We wish to confirm that Barrister Chioma ogbuehi is our nominated candidate for Abia state Central Senatorial District. She replaced Barrister Uzoma K. Anamah,” the letter stated.
