Rivers State Governor, Rt Hon Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has told members of the State PDP campaign sub-committees that popularity of a candidate alone is not enough to win elections in Nigeria.
Governor Amaechi, who gave the charge yesterday while inaugurating the sub-committees and reconciliation committee of the party at the PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt, urged members of the committee to carry out a door-to-door campaign to all parts of the state, and ensure that voters come out of their houses to vote on election days.
The Governor noted that after God, the success of the party in the state depended on them, stressing that popularity alone would not allow them to win elections.
The State Chief Executive also advised them to ignore all abuses by other political parties and let their campaign be based on issues, noting that the PDP led government in the state had done well in the execution of projects both at the urban and rural areas in the state.
The Governor, who also inaugurated the State Reconciliation Committee of the party, urged those who won at the primaries to reconcile with those that lost as well as aggrieved members, to ensure that they remain in the party.
Governor Amaechi emphasised that it was only when the party was united that they would able to achieve the set objectives in order to move the state forward.
He assured them that the state government would continue to deliver on the promises made during the campaign by running an accountable and transparent government.
Earlier, the State Chairman of PDP, Chief Godpower Ake said the party had put together the Sub-Committees for its campaign and the reconciliation committee in order to ensure victory for the party in the state.
He urged the sub-committee members to sell the party’s programmes to the electorate, while the reconciliation committee should ensure that they reconcile all the aggrieved members of the party in order to ensure total victory for the party in the April general elections.
