Court Convicts Farmers Counterfeit Money


A Kaduna Chief Magistrates’ Court, on Wednesday sentenced two farmers to three months imprisonment for conspiracy, cheating and being in possession of counterfeit money.

The convicts, Aliyu Sani, 40, and Kabiru Haruna, 30, of Kubau Local Government Area, were on December 29 arrested for being in possession of N200 and N500 notes believed to be counterfeit.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Simon Usman, told the court that investigation revealed that the convicts used the currency notes to cheat unsuspecting citizens.

He said that during the investigation, the convicts confessed to committing the offences, which are contrary to sections 97,439 and 322 of the Penal Code.

However, when the charges were read to the convicts, they pleaded guilty and begged for leniency.

In his judgement, the Chief Magistrate, Nasiru Idris, sentenced them to three months imprisonment or to pay a fine of N5,000 each.
