RSG Provides Houses To Civil Servants
The Rivers State Government says it will ensure that every civil servant in the state owns his or her own house through the State Housing Scheme.
The State Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikuru disclosed this last Wednesday during the hand-over of houses to Iriebe Housing Estate allotees in Government House, Port Harcourt.
He commended the State Controller of Federal Mortgage Bank, Mrs. Felicia Aningo for selling the idea to the government and pressing for its acceptance, stating that she had contributed to the well-being of civil servants in the state.
Engr. Ikuru noted that the idea was initiated by the former Governor, Dr. Peter Odili and commended the present administration for implementing it to successful conclusion, Engr. Ikuru observed that destiny had only made it that he was the state instrument used to initiate the project as commissioner and to hand over the keys to the allotees today as deputy governor.
He said that some social amenities were yet in place in the housing estate, charging the allotees to take physical possession of the houses, and that both security and other infrastructure would be put in place in the nearest future.
Earlier, the Rivers State Commissioner for Housing, Hon. Marshall Uwom commended the Deputy Governor for being the architect of the housing project, advising the allotees to make proper use of the houses.
In his speech, the General Manager of the Rivers State Housing and Property Development Authority, Mr. Iyerefa Cookey-Gam explained that, when the Iriebe Housing Estate began in 2004, the State had the highest grant of N1.9 billion from the Federal Mortgage Bank for the development of the project, stating that 400 Housing
He said, the State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi authorized their allocation to civil servants in the state, adding that 63 persons won the houses, disclosing that N774 million was eventually used to finance the first phase of the houses and appealed for more funds to build more houses for the benefit of the rest of the State civil servants.
Responding, an allotee, Mr. Enyinna Jaja thanked the State Government for its effort in ensuring that the civil servants were given the opportunity to own houses, appealing for more houses to – be allotted to civil servants.

Rivers Judiciary Denies Issuing Court Order Stopping SOLAD from Swearing in RSCSC Members
The Rivers State Judiciary has denied a media report claiming that Justice Frank Onyiri of the State High Court issued an injunction order restraining the Sole Administrator, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), from inaugurating the newly appointed members of the Rivers State Civil Service Commission (RSCSC).
In a statement issued by the Deputy Chief Registrar in charge of litigation at the High Court, Menenen Poromon (Esq), the state Judiciary disassociated itself from the report, describing it as malicious and fabricated.
The statement emphasized that the report was a falsehood and a misrepresentation of what transpeared in the court.
Poromon clarified that no such order was issued by Justice Onyiri or any other judge of the High Court of the state and urged the public to disregard the information, as it lacked any iota of truth.
The statement however advised the public to verify any information concerning the state Judiciary directly from the office of the Chief Registrar, High Court of the State, to avoid spreading of misinformation.
