Uniport VC Highlights Turn-Around Programmes

The Vice Chancellor of University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Joseph A. Ajienka, has highlighted plans to bring about positive and progressive turn around in the institution.

Responding to an address presented by the National President of University of Port Harcourt, Alumni Association, Mr. Samuel Iyoyo who paid him a courtesy call in his office, Prof. Ajienka said the university would establish Friends of the University, embracing not only corporate bodies but also well meaning individuals, to attract resources  to the University.

He said suggestions were welcome, especially from the Alumni association and announced that the university management has started certain innovations like the publication of a weekly newspaper, prompt release of examination results and the re-introduction of weekly sporting activities for members of staff.

The Vice Chancellor suggested to the association to come up with a programme where individual alumnus could be encouraged to make token voluntary contributions as a way of keeping the memory of their year of graduation alive like to what obtains in an age grade system.

Prof. Ajienka advised the association to continue to develop the institution by encouraging their children and wards to be educated in the university.

In his address, the National President of the University of Port Harcourt Alumni Association, Mr. Samuel Iyoyo, brought to the attention of the new Vice Chancellor certain concerns of the body like delays in the release of transcripts, sessional results, verification of certificates, and insecurity of lives and property on campus.
